Zero residue agriculture: what it is
Theagriculture Zero residue is a type of cultivation that involves the use of chemically synthesised products, provided that residues are less than or equal to 0.01 mg/kg.
In contrast to organic farming, therefore, zero-residue farming also allows the use of chemicals but, above all, does not provide for control over the means used to obtain the crops.
In organic farming, on the other hand, the materials used during the crop cycle and post-harvest must be included in the regulations established by the corresponding certifiers.
Zero residue farming is thus limited to the control of crops, which must not exceed the maximum residue limits proposed by the corresponding EU authorities and the distribution chain itself. Specifically, this type of agriculture is strongly oriented towards the use of natural biostimulants, biofungicides and biopesticides.
Zero-residue farming: how it works
Not only that,Zero residue agriculture can be developed by any kind of company, large or small. Beyond the size of the cultivated areas, in fact, what counts is the quality and efficiency of the inputs used, which allow for homogeneous and regular crops.
Agricultural inputs are generally processed from natural raw materials, such as botanical extracts and minerals, while respecting the environment. In this regard, formulation technology has been cited as a determining factor in ensuring efficacy.
Consequently, complexing agents, surfactants and adjuvants used are also key elements and differentiating factors in the preparation of these inputs.
Not only that, it must be considered that some crops are from this point of view very receptive, although the use of these agricultural inputs should be made for all those that would most easily run the risk of exceeding the permitted chemical residue limits.
Concretely, therefore, zero-residue farming can be used for a wide range of products including: herbs and aromatic plants, solanaceae, cucurbits, cruciferous and legumes, citrus fruits, stone fruits, berries, table and wine grapes and ornamental plants.
Zero residue agriculture: advantages and opportunities
These products are also controlled at all stages, from production to packaging, and represent high quality, safe and healthy foodstuffs, obtained through a virtuous production cycle with a low environmental impact. This offers a number of advantages and represents a great opportunity for a future that demands sustainability and thus a better and fairer use of all resources.
Not only that, it provides access to more markets, as a crop that is free of chemical synthesis activities can more easily exceed the limits set by the MRL lists proposed by the competent bodies. Furthermore, contrary to what one might think, this type of farming does not pose a threat to organic crops.
In fact, zero-residue farming should be understood as an antechamber to entry into the organic world, a sort of gymnasium in which to train to combat the threats posed by diseases and pests through solutions that are respectful of man and the environment.
In this regard, we at Ms Biotech, offer a remarkable package of products branded with the 'Zero Residue' logo, in order to propose viable or integrable alternatives to synthetic products, suitable for a virtuous agriculture that respects Life.
