What are mycorrhizal fungi?

Mycorrhizal fungi are symbiotic microorganisms that live in association with plant roots. In this relationship, the plant provides sugars and nutrients to the fungus, while the latter extends the root network, enhancing the uptake of water and minerals such as phosphorus, zinc and copper.

In our sector we mainly talk about:

  • Endomycorrhizae (arbuscular): penetrate the root cells and is the most commonly used type in agriculture.
