Zeolite: an ally against abiotic and biotic stresses

What is zeolite?

The zeolite is a mineral of volcanic origin that is reduced to a very fine powder and has the property of regulating moisture on the surface of plants. Increasingly used in both conventional and organic agriculture, it is able to boost the immune system of plants, protecting them from insects and fungal diseases.

Not only that, zeolites also have the ability to improve the chemical and physical conditions of the soil. These minerals can therefore be used directly on plants or on the soil, with benefits and positive effects for both. Specifically, zeolites improve cation exchange, help retain water in sandy soils, release mineral salts and essential elements to the plant, such as calcium, iron, potassium magnesium, and help purify the soil by absorbing heavy metals. Not only that, these minerals are able to create an unfavourable environment for soft-bodied crawling insects, regulate humidity, create an unfavourable habitat for the development of fungi and bacteria, and make other products used in plant protection more active and effective.

The high silicon content also means that zeolite is able to increase plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

Zeolite against abiotic and biotic plant stresses

The former, in particular, are those caused by another living being. This is the case with fungi, bacteria, viruses and weeds. Conversely, abiotic stresses are those caused by an extreme environmental factor, i.e. in excess or in defect of normal. An example in this sense are certain atmospheric events such as hail, severe thunderstorms, drought, high temperatures, etc. Not only that, abiotic stresses also include excess or deficiency of light, nutrient imbalance and changes in humidity.

In this case, the plant may show a series of suspicious symptoms, which vary greatly and may be more or less pronounced. It may happen, for example, that the damage is light and limited and that, instead, the plant weakens to such an extent that it dies. And it does not end there. Often biotic stress and abiotic stresses are closely related, as the presence of one can trigger the onset of the other. Usually the trigger is abiotic stress, which creates the critical conditions for plants to weaken and then be attacked by pathogens. This is followed by biotic stress caused by microorganisms and pathogens.

Zeolite: the most effective products

Zeolite is therefore a valuable ally in the protection of plants and crops in agriculture. For this reason, the advice is to use it regularly in order to promote and foster your harvest.
